We stayed at this campground in Bardstown, KY while visiting the Bourbon Trail in the fall of  2015. We arrived in Bardstown on Saturday, October 31.  The campground was easy to find and it is very close to the downtown area of Bardstown.  Upon our arrival at the campground we found the office was closed, the sign on the office instructed us to go ahead and set up on a site and they would catch up later.

Before we could even start the truck up, the owner came riding over to greet us.  We quickly learned that he lives in a home just across the driveway.  He was a very genuine, friendly person.  He indicated all of the sites were 50 amp, fortunately for us Toby had recently given us a 50-30 dog bone.  We were in luck.  The dog bones are available for sale in the camp office if needed.  The owner led us to a nice pull-thru site and we were able to get set-up pretty quickly.

The campground was pretty empty on this fall weekend.  But the owner said they stay pretty busy during the summer and also see a good share of snowbirds on their way to and from the south.  The showers and bathrooms facilities were functional and clean (focus on “functional”)  but not well marked.  They have a small play area and a covered meeting area that was not in use while we were there. There were no fire rings but fires are only allowed on the gravel drives.  It looks like the campground staff clean up the debris from the fires as campers leave their sites.  We met some very nice neighboring campers as you do in most campgrounds.

Sunday we started our distillery visits.  It is really important that you pay close attention to hours of operation and tour times because there is some distance between the distillers.  This was a really quick trip so we were not able to make it to all of the distilleries.  But we made a great effort and had some amazing bourbon along the way.

We visited:

Barton 1792 Distiller

Jim Beam’s American Stillhouse

Maker’s Mark Distillery

Heaven Hill Distilleries Bourbon Heritage Ctr

Downtown Bardstown has some interesting shopping and  we also paid a visit to
My Old Kentucky Home State Park Federal Hill was the inspiration for Stephen Foster’s ballad, “My Old Kentucky Home,” which honors the state song.

Visit Bardstown is a good start for information

It was a fun trip but too short to fit everything in.  The campground was conveniently located.  We would visit again if in the area.
